Easy Valentine’s Day Craft for Toddlers

Looking for an easy Valentine’s Day craft to do with your toddler this year? My two-year-old loved making these silly Valentine’s hearts.
They were super easy to make and she was able to do most of the craft herself.

Here’s how to make this easy Valentine’s Day heart craft with your toddler!
What You Need:
- paper plates
- fingerpaint
- sponge (optional)
- scissors
- popsicle sticks
- markers
- googly eyes
- glue
Step One:
Paint your paper plates.
This was my daughter’s favorite part of the craft. She requested red and purple paints. We didn’t have any purple so I had her mix red and blue together.
She preferred to use her fingers but we also used a sponge to make different textures on the paper plates.

We love the Crayola Art Smock and use it for all messy crafts and projects!

Step Two:
Let the plates dry.
Cut hearts out of each of the paper plates. I folded them in half first and then cut out a heart shape.

I didn’t want to waste the paper plate scraps so I hung them up as Valentine’s Day decorations.

Step Three:
Color your popsicle sticks. You may want to put them on top of a piece of paper or at least use washable markers. My daughter got a lot of marker on the counter! Luckily, it cleaned right up with some kitchen spray.

Step Four:
Attach your googly eyes and popsicle sticks using glue. I let my daughter tell me where to put the glue then she picked out which size googly eyes she wanted to use.
NOTE: Originally I just planned on making a heart bouquet using the painted hearts but my daughter insisted on putting on the eyes. I think they look pretty cute!

Step Five:
We decided to create a Valentine’s heart bouquet. You can be as fancy as you like, but we just used a plastic cup to hold the hearts.
We put in some glass gemstones to weight down the cups and hold the popsicle sticks in place.
I then cut a piece of red construction paper and wrapped it around the inside of the cup.

These Valentine’s Day hearts were so easy to make and my daughter had a blast. We ended up giving the heart bouquets to my mom and mother in law for their birthdays, which are both right near Valentine’s Day.
